Konica Minolta
At the Konica Minolta Group,"the essentials of imaging" is our corporate message. With this in mind, the Group was established in August 2003 with a view to becoming a driving force in the world of imaging—one that offers customers essential products.
Our goals have been to become an innovative company that continuously inspires with creativity in the field of imaging, as well as to be a global corporate force that leads the market through sophisticated technology, earning the trust of our customers and partners. To achieve this, we thoroughly revamped our corporate base in fiscal 2003 and 2004.
Konica Minolta is engaged in many different aspects of the imaging field, from input through output. At the same time, we plan to continue to fully focus our energies on implementing a "genre-top" strategy, in which we concentrate on creating a great number of products capable of holding the top share in segments and fields in which the company excels—namely fields backed by our four core technologies: materials, optics, nano-fabrication and imaging.
Among our business segments, office equipment, which is a core business, and optical devices, a strategically important field, are considered priority fields. In the area of office equipment, consisting mainly of output devices such as multi-functional digital peripherals and laser printers, we now offer excellent quality imaging and cutting-edge solutions, having advanced technical development of equipment, controls, and consumable supplies with a view to achieving better color output capability. In the optics business, we offer a group of highly competitive products, particularly optical pickup lenses, which hold a top share in the industry, and TAC film for liquid-crystal displays, demand for which is expected to grow dramatically, as we strive to become the most competitive optical device company in the world.
In January 2006, we made the difficult decision to withdraw from the photo imaging business. Photo imaging is a business that both companies began with, and which both have long been engaged in prior to the Konica Minolta integration. We at management made this harsh decision knowing that it would be a very painful one, yet in doing so we aim to create new corporate value. We are making efforts to deal with various issues with profound sincerity toward our customers and concerned people in the course of withdrawal.
Moving ahead with versatile advanced technologies and responding with agility to the rapidly-changing market environment, Konica Minolta is committed to becoming a corporate group with a distinct presence—one that offers products, services, and solutions indispensable to the field of imaging.
