The Take it Back Network
The Take it Back Network is a group of local electronics repair and resale shops,
recyclers and nonprofit groups that recycle or reuse electronic equipment.

The Take It Back Network provides options for collecting, processing, and recycling computers, computer monitors, peripherals, televisions, and other electronic devices in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

As part of the Take it Back Network, OASYS accepts computers, monitors, printers, TVs, cell phones, PDAs, fax machines, stereos, DVD and VCR players and other household electronics. The electronics are recycled domestically in an environmentally sound manner.

Computers, computer monitors, televisions, and other electronics contain CRTs (cathode ray tubes), and separated computer circuit boards contain hazardous materials such as lead, cadmium and mercury. They are no longer accepted for landfill disposal at many county facilities. This change is in response to Washington State Department of Ecology and Federal rules.

Both the local "Take it Back Network" recyclers and the national recycling services charge a fee for recycling.

Note that the businesses and organizations that are not "Take it Back Network" members have not agreed to the "Take it Back Network" Membership Requirements and may export their equipment to countries that have less stringent environmental regulations.

Before you pay a fee to have your materials processed, be sure to ask the recycler for documentation about where and how the materials are recycled to ensure the materials are being handled properly.
